President Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech on Thursday brought out a quick response from Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro, who joined other Daily Wire hosts and company co-founder Jeremy Boreing to discuss the speech on Daily Wire “Backstage.”
During his address, Biden focused heavily on criticizing former President Donald Trump, Republican lawmakers, and conservative voters. Biden spent considerable time at the start of his speech pushing pro-abortion policies and calling on Republicans in Congress to get behind additional support for Ukraine.
After the speech concluded, the “Backstage” stream shifted back to the Daily Wire hosts and Shapiro delivered his initial response to Biden’s address.
“Well, that was s***,” Shapiro said.
“I think we can go home. That’s the commentary,” Daily Wire host Andrew Klavan quipped.
Matt Walsh agreed with Shapiro’s takeaway, saying, “It’s the worst State of the Union address that’s maybe ever been given, especially for the first 30 minutes — angry, slurring, starting with probably the most hyper-partisan issues he probably could’ve.”

The Daily Wire hosts, along with Boreing, later said that the president’s speech was one of the most divisive addresses in modern American history. Shapiro argued that “the only reason” Biden began his speech by focusing on Ukraine was so he could compare Trump supporters to Vladimir Putin and Russian invaders to “demonize half the American public.”

Klavan added that Biden “has always been this angry, mean, hateful, corrupt little son of a gun.”
“This might be the only State of the Union that ever accomplished anything which might be getting Donald Trump elected,” Klavan said.
Shapiro added that Biden and Democrats have moved so far to the Left that Democratic politicians 30 years ago seem more aligned with current Republicans, such as Trump.
“Donald Trump’s campaign is closer to Bill Clinton’s 1996 campaign than Joe Biden’s campaign [is] by far; it’s not actually particularly close,” Shapiro said.
