Biden Admits He Worked Alongside ‘Real Racists,’ Then Claims Today’s GOP Is Worse

President Joe Biden reportedly admitted that he had served in the Senate with “real racists” and segregationists — mentioning former South Carolina GOP Sen. Strom Thurmond by name — and then claimed that today’s Republican Party was “worse.”

According to a pool report from Wednesday evening, Biden compared Republicans to the men he’d served with who “set terrible records on race,” accusing the GOP of not believing in “basic democratic principles.”

“Biden tonight, per pool,” Roll Call chief correspondent Niels Lesniewski posted via X. “‘I’ve served with real racists. I’ve served with Strom Thurmond. I’ve served with all these guys that have set terrible records on race. But guess what? These guys are worse. These guys do not believe in basic democratic principles.’”

“Time and again, Republicans show they are the party of chaos and division,” Biden reportedly added.

But Biden did not elaborate on his own personal history with those “real racists” — probably because he has a well-documented history of praising them and even eulogizing them, as several were quick to point out on X.

“Joe Biden repeatedly praised Strom Thurmond, called him his ‘closest friend,’ urged him to run for president, and eulogized him at his funeral. All of these are recorded on video,” Sean Davis, CEO and co-founder of The Federalist, posted.

Video from a birthday dinner for Thurmond in 1993 showed Biden delivering very flattering remarks about the “son of the south,” the other half of his “odd couple.”

“‘Sure, guys like Storm Thurmond didn’t want black people to vote. But at least they believed in democracy, unlike these clowns,’” social media user Varad Mehta mocked the president in an X post.

And while Biden did not mention the late senator and KKK Grand Cyclops Robert Byrd (D-WV) by name when he mentioned serving with racists, conservative strategist Steve Guest shared a video of the then-vice president’s remarks from Byrd’s funeral in 2010.

“Joe Biden is unhinged,” Guest posted. “Nearly 14 years ago, he delivered a eulogy for segregationist and former KKK ‘Exalted Cyclops’ leader Robert Byrd. Biden called Byrd a ‘mentor,’ a ‘guide,’ and a ‘friend.’”
