Biden Job Approval Nears Record Low As Nearly 70% Of Americans Disapprove Of His Handling Of Immigration: Poll

Nearly 60% of Americans disapprove of President Joe Biden’s performance while nearly 70% disapprove of his handling of immigration, according to recent polling.

In polling conducted from February 1-20, Gallup found that 59% of Americans disapprove of Biden while just 38% approve. The polling found that he is underwater on key issues like immigration, foreign policy, and the economy as he mounts a re-election campaign.

“Americans’ approval of President Joe Biden’s job performance has edged down three percentage points to 38%, just one point shy of his all-time low and well below the 50% threshold that has typically led to reelection for incumbents,” Gallup reported on Friday. “Biden’s approval rating has not risen above 44% since August 2021, and his 39.8% average rating for his third year in office was the second worst among post-World War II presidents elected to their first term.”

Only 40% of Americans approve of his handling of Ukraine, while 53% of Americans disapprove. Biden has staked a large part of his campaign on saying he will continue to prioritize aid to Ukraine in contrast with former President Donald Trump. Trump has said that he would bring peace between Ukraine and Russia within days of coming into office.

Just 36% of Americans like Biden’s approach to the economy, which has seen rising inflation impact everyday items like food, gas, and housing. According to the poll, 61% of Americans disapprove of how he has handled the economy.

The president’s lowest areas of approval are on the Israel-Hamas conflict and immigration. Sixty-two percent disapprove of his handling of Israel and Hamas. Biden has faced criticism from some Republicans for his comments toward Israel while some Democrats have said he has been too favorable.

Just 28% of Americans approve of his handling of immigration while 67% disapprove. There have been millions of illegal southern border crossings under Biden, who has claimed he cannot do anything to stop the surge. Recent Democratic messaging has attempted to pin blame for the border on Republicans after they shot down a bill that provided some funding for immigration security but Republicans argued would only make the problem worse.

Despite speculation that Biden might be replaced as the Democratic nominee, his approving among the party has remained relatively steady.

“Democrats’ latest overall job rating of Biden is steady at 82% — higher than they give him for any specific issue. However, the 82% overall approval is far from the nearly unanimous approval he earned from his party during his first 11 months in office, but it is unchanged compared with November, even as his issue ratings are mostly down,” Gallup found.
