Israel Reportedly Carried Out Covert Attacks On Natural Gas Infrastructure Inside Iran

Israel reportedly carried out secret attacks on Iranian natural gas pipelines inside Iran this week as a warning to world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism that it can wreak havoc throughout the country if it continues to finance terrorism against Israel and Jews worldwide.

The covert operations ripped apart gas pipelines transporting gas from Asaluyeh, a hub for Iran’s offshore South Pars gas field, to provinces throughout Iran. The explosions stopped the flow of gas to at least five provinces, impacting homes, government facilities, and industrial factories, according to a report from The New York Times.

The report noted that the strike was the latest covert operation Israel has carried out in Iran in response to Iran’s support for terrorism. Israel has destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities, killed top Iranian nuclear scientists, and disabled Iranian systems with cyberattacks.

Western officials and an Iranian official said that the operation showed that Israel had a “deep knowledge of Iran’s infrastructure” and that the attack was more symbolic in nature and served as a warning to Iran.

“The Western officials said Israel also caused a separate blast on Thursday inside a chemical factory on the outskirts of Tehran that rattled a neighborhood and sent plumes of smoke and fire into the air,” the report added. “But local officials said the factory explosion, which took place on Thursday, stemmed from an accident in the factory’s fuel tank.”

Israel rarely, if ever, acknowledges the covert operations that it carries out in the Middle East as it takes on Islamic terrorist networks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last month that his country was already in the process of “attacking Iran.”

“This shows that the covert networks operating in Iran have expanded their target list and advanced beyond just military and nuclear sites,” said Shahin Modarres, a Middle East security expert. “It’s a major challenge and reputation blow for Iran’s intelligence and security agencies.”

The report said that the covert attacks knocked out approximately 15% of Iran’s daily natural gas production as cities throughout the country were impacted. Iranian officials claimed that the operation was intended to take out closer to 40% of the country’s capacity to transport gas.

“The level of impact was very high because these are two significant pipelines going south to north,” said energy analyst Homayoun Falakshahi. “We have never seen anything like this in scale and scope.”
