McConnell To Step Down As Senate Republican Leader

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced Wednesday that he will step down as the top Senate Republican in November.

“One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter,” McConnell said during a speech on the Senate floor. “So I stand before you today … to say that this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate.”

The Associated Press first reported that McConnell, who recently turned 82, was planning to announce his decision on Wednesday and shared excerpts of his prepared remarks.
