Tim Allen Coming Back To ABC With New Comedy Pilot

Tim Allen definitely got everyone’s attention when he announced he’d be returning to ABC to work on a brand-new comedy pilot.

The 70-year-old actor/comedian took to X on Thursday and wrote, “We are at it again! ABC just ordered a comedy pilot, ‘Shifting Gears.’” His post included a link to an article about the project in Variety magazine.

Allen is pegged to not only star in the multicamera comedy but also be an executive producer for the pilot with the current working title “Shifting Gears,” the outlet noted.

In the pilot, Allen plays Matt, a “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins,” a project description reads.

The “Toy Story” star appeared on ABC for six years, from 2011 to 2017, in his sitcom “Last Man Standing.” Allen played a conservative father in a female-dominated household. In 2017, the network suddenly canceled the show despite its incredible rating success, as The Hollywood Reporter noted.

“Last Man Standing” then found a new home and moved to Fox in 2018, where the series ran until 2021.

Before that, it was at ABC where Allen got his breakthrough role in entertainment when he landed the part of Tim “The Toolman” Taylor on the hugely successful sitcom “Home Improvement,” which ran from 1991 to 1999.

It was focused on “the daily trials and tribulations of Tim ‘The Tool Man’ Taylor, a television show host raising three mischievous boys with help from his loyal co-host, loving wife, and eccentric neighbor,” according to IMDb.

Variety noted that Allen’s most recent project for the Disney-backed network is with Disney+ for “The Santa Clauses” series, in which he stars and executive produces.
