‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Exec Talks Greatness Of Richard Lewis, Reveals He Will Be In 2 More Episodes

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” executive producer Jeff Schaffer talked about the greatness of the late Richard Lewis and revealed that he would appear in two more episodes in the series’ final season.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Shaffer said Lewis, who died last month at the age of 76, had previously filmed scenes with co-creator Larry David that will appear in Season 12.

The thing about Richard is that everyone knows how funny he was,” Schaffer said. “But I want people to know also that he was the sweetest, kindest man. Everyone loved him. He loved being on the show. He will be missed.”

“Three weeks to the day before he passed, we shot with him,” Schaffer said. “He looked great. He was moving around way better than he was when we were shooting the rest of the season.”

“He was just excited and it was great,” he added. “It was a bit of a shock. I’d say his body may have betrayed him, but his wit never wavered the entire time.”

“He said he wasn’t going to do standup again or tour anymore, obviously due to health reasons,” Schaffer continued. “But he never stopped coming up with jokes. He was funny every minute he was on set.”

Schaffer said Lewis, who was honored in an opening title card in the March 3 episode, would appear in the eighth episode and the series finale.

“No one has seen the last of Richard Lewis,” Schaffer explained.

Last April, Lewis announced that he was retiring from standup comedy and had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

On February 28, Variety magazine confirmed Lewis’ death following a post on X from actress Bette Midler, who wrote, “On a sad note, the great Richard Lewis has died.”

Shortly after the outlet’s report, People magazine shared a statement from Lewis’ rep, Jeff Abraham, saying: “Comedian/Actor Richard Lewis passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles last night after suffering a heart attack.”
