Unions Gone Wild with Your Money
Picture this: hardworking teachers, scraping by on modest salaries, fork over their dues to unions promising to fight for their rights. Instead, those unions—specifically the National Education Association (NEA) and American Federation of Teachers (AFT)—are playing Robin Hood in reverse, funneling a jaw-dropping $43.5 million to progressive groups since 2022. Why? To bankroll everything from Democratic PACs to woke think tanks, leaving teachers and parents wondering if education is even on the agenda. Buckle up, because this cash grab is a wild ride.
Where’s the Money Going?
So, where’s this mountain of cash landing? The NEA and AFT have been tossing millions like confetti at groups like the For Our Future Action Fund, a left-wing PAC that scored $9.3 million to push Democrats in swing states. Meanwhile, the Center for American Progress, a progressive think tank, pocketed nearly a million bucks. Oh, and let’s not forget the $600,000 sprinkled on groups like the Democratic Governors Association. Apparently, unions think teachers’ hard-earned dues are better spent on political crusades than, say, better classrooms.
Aaron Withe, an expert on public-sector unions, pointed out that the National Education Association spends less than 10% of its budget on what he called “representational activities,” while, at the same time, the union spends 38% of its budget on contributions to left-leaning groups, lobbying and political gifts.
“You’d think in light of the decline in union membership in recent years, that they’d start providing value to members that outweighs the cost of membership,” Withe told Fox News Digital. “Instead, they are appeasing the radical base of union members by advocating for men in women’s sports, transitioning minors, antisemitism and other radical ideological stances.”
He added that this is just “the tip of the iceberg” too “when you consider that there are thousands of statewide and city and county teachers unions that are mostly funding the same causes.”
Teachers Left in the Dust

Here’s the kicker: while 57% of teachers lean Republican or independent, nearly all this cash flows to far-left causes. The NEA alone spent 38% of its budget on progressive groups but only 10% on actual teacher representation, like bargaining or professional development. Talk about priorities! Parents hoping for better math scores? Tough luck. Teachers wanting support? Keep dreaming. The unions are too busy funding political pipe dreams to care about the classroom.
A Slap to Common Sense
This isn’t just a money grab; it’s a betrayal. As unions cozy up to radical agendas, they’re alienating the very teachers they claim to represent. Meanwhile, kids are stuck in schools where reading and math scores stagnate, per the Nation’s Report Card. The outrage is real—35,000+ shares on X in 18 hours show conservatives are fed up. So, what’s next? Will teachers keep footing the bill for union bosses’ political joyrides, or will they demand their dues go to education? Time to think: should unions be defunded to put schools first?
