A construction worker in Florida who fatally stabbed his Trump supporting employer during a heated political disagreement has been found not guilty due to insanity. The 34-year-old man was acquitted of murdering his 28-year-old boss and longtime friend on February 7, 2025, after a judge determined he was mentally unstable at the time of the 2020 attack.
Rather than facing incarceration, the worker will be admitted to a secure psychiatric facility. The incident occurred on January 20, 2020 near a major highway in Florida when the two men, who held opposing political views, began arguing in a vehicle on their way to a job site. The boss was known to be a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, while the employee harbored strong anti-government sentiments and paranoia.
According to witnesses, the worker suddenly assaulted his employer with a construction trowel during the altercation. Fellow laborers heard screams and rushed to help, only to discover the boss deceased and the accused brandishing the weapon while shouting accusations of terrorism. An American flag stained with blood was located near the body.
The perpetrator fled in a truck but was apprehended later that day in a neighboring county. The victim’s mother had previously cautioned her son against employing the man due to his unstable behavior, insisting the killing stemmed from mental illness rather than politics.
The two had been friends since childhood despite their clashing ideologies. The worker’s next psychiatric evaluation is scheduled for August 11, 2025 to assess his ongoing treatment.
Coworkers and family described the victim as a patriotic, generous individual who openly supported Trump. In contrast, the affidavit portrayed the employee as vehemently anti-government and convinced of conspiracies against him.
Deputies responded to emergency calls around 10:30 AM reporting the boss’s death along the highway. The shocking slaying devastated the victim’s loved ones, who remembered the killer as a caring friend to their son from his school days.
